The holiday spirit is alive and well and living at Colonial Playhouse. Our Extravaganza has everything needed to raise your festive quotient to the optimal “Warm, Merry, and Kind-Hearted” level.
You’ll think you’ve dropped in on a Christmas Eve service with “Away in a Manger,” “We Three Kings”, “The Little Drummer Boy”, and hear the true meaning of Christmas with Linus’s monologue from “A Charlie Brown Christmas”
Then you’ll see “Oy, Vey, Maria!” which answers the question “What would have happened if Mary’s Jewish mother came to the manger to see her new grandson?” The answer played out here provides a fun and warm-hearted take on the iconic manger scene.
Everyone sings “Silver Bells” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and you’ll think you’re in the middle of an Andy Williams Christmas Special.
With “You Better Watch Out” we learn what might happen if “The War on Christmas” was taken quite literally by a “Paramilitary Christmas Unit” bent on Christmas decorations for everyone, whether you want them or not.
The young cast members get a chance to shine in “I Have a Little Dreidel” and everyone joins in singing and dancing to “Hanukkah, Oh, Hanukkah”.
Charlotte Miller opens Act 2 with a beautiful medley of Christmas hymns, then the group enters with “African Noel” followed by “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “O Tannenbaum”….or is it “O Christmas Tree”?
We find out what might happen if our Christmas tree could talk in “O Tannenbaum”, get a bit of a song and dance with “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, and through a series of duets and solos, we are reminded that the holidays can also bring fights and sadness, and even the blues, but there is still a deeper reason for hope, joy, and yes, even peace and goodwill to all.
The final play of the evening shows us what might happen if Hanukkah became as big as Christmas in “A Very Special Hanukkah Special” and we finish off with a brief sing-along of some favorite Christmas carols.
Most members of this talented cast play multiple roles and also sing with the chorus. Our cast includes: Eliana DiPasquale, Sam Dressler, Caroline Fuimano, Annaliese Gove (Dec. 14), Kira Hecht, Arpy Jones, Paige Jones, Stephen Jones, Julie Lacontora, Diane Lowenthal, Liz McCallum, Maddie McCormick, Charlotte Miller, Shelby Seidman, John Vicente, George Webster, and Lauren Wickel.
All this in less than 2 hours and only $15 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. The best deal in town for all your holiday cheer needs! The show runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm through December 15. Tickets can be purchased online at http://colonialplayhouse.net/holiday-extravaganza/
