BUCKINGHAM – Town and Country Players opens its 70th season with Neil Simon’s comedy, RUMORS. This side-splitting farce takes a pointed look at love and marriage, careers and success, and the gossip that can ruin it all.
The play opens in the home of Charley Brock, the deputy-mayor of New York. His friends, Chris (Lorraine Barrett) and Ken Gorman (Terry Fenningham) have arrived for a party to celebrate Charley and his wife’s, Myra (Darlene Sacco), 10th wedding anniversary. Instead, Chris and Ken find that Charley has a bullet hole in his ear and Myra and the kitchen staff are missing. Fearing the worst, Chris and Ken panic. Three more couples are coming and the Gormans need a story to hide a potentially career ruining scandal. As each couple arrives, the story gets more involved and more ridiculous. And just when the party guests think they have it figured it out, the police (Jeff Dworkin and Darlene Sacco) arrive. The friends need to create one more outrageous scenario to explain what happened when they themselves do not even know.
The cast is rounded out by some of T&C’s comedy veterans, Don Dillon, Paul Frank, Mary Saile, Val Sharper, Stephanie Smith, Joseph Perignat. Director, Jon Knapp says of the cast, “They are a very talented bunch. They’ve really outdone themselves bringing this comedy to life.”
