Don’t miss MCT’s winter production: Michael Hollinger’s INCORRUPTIBLE. This hilarious play will be presented in MCT’s new winter show format: Snack & 2 Acts. Patrons will enjoy a full-length comic play, banquet style seating, and a personal basket of assorted snacks. BYOB is welcome at this festive and relaxed show format.
INCORRUPTIBLE is a sly, sharp-tongued tale that skewers religious hierarchy and material worship in a medieval French monastery. MCT’s production features Ben Alter-Hallman as Jack, a scheming one-eyed minstrel. Jack’s lusty mistress is portrayed by Alexis Leigh Ross and her caustic mother is brought to life by MCT newcomer, Norma Kider. Matt Lake and Jim Ludovici play the first and second in command at the monastery and the junior monks are portrayed by Loren Bittner and Michael Rizzo. Carlene Lawson appears as our villain, the Abbess of Bernay.
INCORRUPTIBLE’s monks face a dire crisis: the bones of their patron, St. Foy, haven’t produced a miracle in thirteen years. As a result, the pilgrims have stopped visiting and the monastery is in ruin. All eyes turn to the Pope, whose promised visit will restore the monastery to its former glory. That is until a rival abbey claims to possess the relics of St. Foy and the faithful rush to witness a slew of well-publicized miracles. The enraged monks become desperate and are easy prey for a scheming one-eyed minstrel and his mistress. In desperation, the monks launch a mail order bones business selling false relics to religious orders throughout Europe. Prosperity abounds, but the going gets tough when they have to produce an “incorruptible,” that is, a body of an expired saint that resists decay.
INCORRUPTIBLE is under the direction of Kate McShane, assisted by Jaedto Smith. Donna Andorn and Loretta Rurode are the show’s producers. The set designer is Marybeth Richmond with Emily Hromada as set decorator. Evan McElhiney is lead builder assisted by Bob Andorn. Mike Addice is the show’s lighting designer and the sound design is under the direction of Heather Bernard. Sue Carney is the costume designer and props mistress is Alexis Leigh Ross. Bill McShane and Nancy Randall are responsible for hospitality.
