Winner of seven Tony Awards®, EVITA brings to life the dynamic, larger-than-life persona of Eva Perón, wife of former Argentine dictator, Juan Perón. Blessed with charisma, Eva Perón captivated a nation by championing the working class. This exuberant production creates a gripping theatrical experience and features Andrew Lloyd Webber’s compelling Latin, pop and jazz influenced score. One of the most popular collaborations between Webber and Tim Rice, this legendary musical features the memorable song “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina.” The show is presented by MCT (Methacton Community Theater) on November 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13 at the Shannondell Performing Arts Theater, 10000 Shanndonell Blvd., Audubon PA 19403.
Building on the success of Into the Woods, The Producers and Guys and Dolls, the show is being directed by Deb Schrager (Elkins Park) assisted by Janice Orner (Norristown). Producers are Michelle Miller (Audubon) and Loretta Rurode (Eagleville). The vocal directors are Erin Toscani (Berwyn) and Emily Erb (Philadelphia), with Raquel Garcia (Upper Darby) directing the orchestra for this challenging musical. Sally Rothschild (Wayne) as choreographer and Sue Carney (Pottstown) as head costumer capture the beauty of Argentina visually. Lighting by Dean Soltes (Collegeville) and sound by Ray DiSandro (Audubon) contribute to the show coming together in this beautiful theater. Completing the production staff are Harvey Perelman (Huntingdon Valley) as stage manager, set designer, and set construction lead, Ilene Perelman (Huntingdon Valley) as props mistress with Emily Hromada (Wayne) as set decorator. Photography is by Don Otto (Audubon)
This production will transform the stage into an arena where the audience can examine the consequences of choice. We will follow the choices of Eva Duarte de Perón played by Laura Donnelly (Audubon) and Nicolette Adams (Pottstown) (performing on 11/5), and responses to these choices through Che Guevara played by Geoffery Desiato (East Norriton). We will see the effects these choices have not only on the populace of Argentina and the world, but on herself and those that love her. Filling out the very talented leads are Randall King (Chester Springs) as Juan Peron, Jon Ashley (King of Prussia) as Magaldi, and Marie Spidale (King of Prussia) as Juan Peron’s mistress.
