Old Academy Players is very elated to present THE FOURTH WALL by the award winning playwright, A.R. Gurney. Directed by Annie Hnatko and produced by Steve Hnatko, the show dates are November 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, & 20, 2016.
From the playwright who wrote “Love Letters,” “The Dining Room” and “The Cocktail Hour,” comes the profoundly moving and equally funny THE FOURTH WALL. “THE FOURTH WALL…is filled with amusing literary references, sophisticated characters and moves along quickly with nary a wasted word…but the real fun…comes from watching Gurney play with the changing reality of the moment as his characters and audience respond to the fourth wall in front of them.” —Variety.
Peggy has become obsessed that her life is a play, and has redecorated the living room with one wall completely blank, the “fourth wall,” representing the “audience.” Her delusion is compounded when people entering the room behave as if they were acting in a play, even belting out Cole Porter songs! With age comes wisdom, but with age can also come irrelevance. What A. R. Gurney demonstrates in THE FOURTH WALL is that, you can find both wisdom and up-to-the-minute relevance, with a good measure of hilarity as well.
The audience is guaranteed to be smiling and humming some of Porter’s unforgettable tunes after this stellar night of theater. The sensational cast includes: Michele Loor Nicolay as Peggy, Elliott Rotman as Roger, Sarah Labov as Julia, and Durell Griffin as Floyd.
Food drive: Continuing a tradition begun in 2011, Old Academy Players will collect non-perishable food items in November for FISH (Friends In Supplying Help) Community Food Cupboard at North Light Community Center.
