Let’s go crazy with City Theater Company as they kick off their 2016-2017 season with a night of all ‘80s music at World Café Live at The Queen. Rocker Joe Trainor produces and directs the one-night only event, which features an all-star Delaware band and a line-up of CTC powerhouses performing the biggest hits of the 1980s. Proceeds benefit City Theater Company.
Sixteen singers share vocal duties for this two-hour concert event, backed by a seven-piece rock band. It’s an old-school dance party featuring pop hits from Duran Duran to Michael Jackson, The Go-Gos to Run-DMC, Cyndi Lauper to Peter Gabriel. “There’s something for everyone,” says Trainor, who will also be performing. “We have 38 MTV era tunes—Classic Rock, New Wave, R&B, Hair Bands, Old-School Rap. If you liked it in the ‘80s, we are probably playing it!”
The dance party continues at Merchant Bar immediately following the show, where DJ Zip will be spinning more ‘80s tunes until close. It’s a night for big hair, big pants, and big nostalgia. Come rock with CTC!
The band is comprised of heavy hitters from the local scene, including Ritchie Rubini (The Caulfields), Dan Long (Montana Wildaxe, Echoes, Best Kept Secret), Dan Kauffman (Glim Dropper), Matt Casarino and Jill Knapp (Hot Breakfast!), Kevin Niemi (Joe Trainor Trio, Slackerbot), and Trainor (JT3, In The Light, Keep It Dark). Featured vocalists are Chris Banker, Tonya Baynes, Jim Burns, Matt Casarino, Petra Deluca, Dylan Geringer, Gordon Holmes, Lew Indellini, Jill Knapp, Dan Kauffman, Kerry Kristine McElrone, Kevin Niemi, Emma Orr, Deej Roisin, Brendan Sheehan, Joe Trainor.
Founded in 1993, City Theater Company performs contemporary comedies, new works, and classic musicals to critical acclaim in an intimate black box theater on the Wilmington waterfront. Their mission is to create a body of work for the stage that is consistently high-quality, provocative and new; a body of work that takes risks and breaks barriers in order to engage new theater audiences in an exciting exchange of ideas, images and energies.
