Pegasus Theatre Project is the new resident theatre company of the West Windsor Arts Council. This new and exciting collaboration will provide a vibrant, unique, and accessible venue for the community to experience all forms of art, from exhibits to live theatre at the West Windsor Arts Center, located on Alexander Rd. in Princeton Junction, NJ. The company’s first season will showcase Proof by David Auburn, running September 9-18, 2016, and Art by Yasmina Reza, running March 31-April 9, 2017.
Pegasus Theatre Project is an independent, professional theatre company co-founded by three local theatre veterans, Peter Bisgaier, Jennifer Nasta Zefutie, and Judi Parrish. Together, they have over 85 years of experience in all aspects of theatre production and will serve as Co-Producing Artistic Directors. Born of the desire to produce intimate productions that are interesting and challenging, Pegasus offers engaging entertainment that is both compelling and fun.
“We want to provide New Jersey audiences with an opportunity to see the smaller, more intimate plays that don’t always get the attention they deserve, but are provocative and challenging for both an audience to experience and theatre artists to create,” stated Jennifer Nasta Zefutie, Co-founder and Director of Art, the company’s second show of its season.
The West Windsor Arts Center hosts art exhibits; musical, dance, and literary performances; art classes; workshops; and various special events. “In the Performance Gallery, the walls are always full of provocative artwork, which lends a distinction to the space and creates a unique environment for live theatre,” stated Peter Bisgaier, Pegasus Co-founder and Production Manager for the Arts Center.
Highlighting the unique nature of their collaboration, Pegasus strongly considers Arts Council programming and the artwork on display in the Arts Center Performance Gallery when selecting its season. Proof, which runs September 9-18, 2016, correlates with the Art & Science exhibit scheduled in the Gallery at the same time. Art, scheduled to run March 31-April 9, 2017, explores the question of what is art as three friends find their relationship challenged and ultimately strengthened as a result of their differing opinions. Artwork created by Members of the Arts Center will be on display during the production run of Art.
“This collaboration is significant as it will provide audiences with fresh, multi-disciplinary arts experiences that offer alternative interpretations of themes explored through the Arts Center programs. The West Windsor Arts Council is very excited to welcome Pegasus to the Arts Center as its professional theatre company,” stated Aylin Green, Executive Director of the West Windsor Arts Council.
The West Windsor Arts Center is located at 952 Alexander Rd., Princeton Junction, NJ 08550, just 2 blocks from the Princeton Junction train station and less than a mile from Route 1 at the Alexander Rd. exit. “The Arts Center is the perfect venue for the types of plays we want to produce,” stated Judi Parrish, Co-founder and Director of the company’s first venture, Proof. “It’s the right size for these plays. And its location, mid-way between New York and Philadelphia, is ideal for attracting top notch theatre professionals.”
To kick off its inaugural season, Pegasus is offering a special on season subscriptions through June 15 – purchase a season subscription to see both Proof and Art for just $30, a 25% savings over purchasing individual tickets.
