Local nonprofit Facetime Theatre is kicking off a new season in its new performance and education space in the Franklin Commons with a fun and elegant fundraiser titled, “A Night with the Stars.”
The event, planned for Saturday, February 20, from 7 to 10 pm, is a grand opening of Facetime‟s new space that will allow it to expand its performance and educational opportunities for children and adults.
“Facetime is excited to ‘show off’ its new space and to hear everyone’s ideas of how this amazing facility can be used to further enhance Facetime’s programming,” says Lisa Starczewski, Facetime’s founder and president.
The theatre’s fundraising director, Michelle Gottfried, couldn’t agree more.
“The space is amazing and perfect for this event because we have so much room to ‘imagine, create, perform’— exactly what our tagline says. There are so many cool aspects to this space, you will enter and feel as though you are at a party under the stars!” adds Gottfried.
To showcase their star power, Facetime’s education and production staff will delight the guests with live musical entertainment. The list of performers includes Starczewski, Kate Nice of Schwenksville, Katie Romano of Conshohocken, Jessica Potts of Havertown and Amy Osterhoudt of Phoenixville. All are experienced actors, singers, directors, musicians and teachers.
But they won‟t be the only stars.
“There will be many ‘stars’ in attendance, including Facetime students who will share testimonials about what it means to be part of the Facetime family, and Facetime’s generous donors, who will be honored throughout the evening for their continued support of the performing arts,” says Starczewski.
The importance of supporting arts education cannot be overstated, according to Gottfried. “More and more studies are showing a connection between arts education and academic achievement, as well as other important benefits like better language skills and cultural sensitivity,” she says.
“Part of what we’re doing with ‘A Night with the Stars’ is raising money to provide the types of classes and lessons the kids need to round out their education,” Gottfried adds.
Other fun features at the event will include a photo booth, raffle baskets, and a tasting sponsored by Bluebird Distilling. The menu will be heavy appetizers and desserts. Drinks are BYOB.
